Travellin' Man

Out of the last two months, Charlie has had to be gone for about three and a half weeks.

THREE AND A HALF WEEKS! Egads! For a girl who isn't exactly brave at staying home by herself, that's a lot of Daddy being gone. The first trip I didn't sleep well at all. The second trip I got better, and now I'm practically a pro.

It's also a lot of time being alone with the little ones. But I started getting used to it and enjoyed it tremendously. I don't usually put the big boys to bed anymore, that's almost all Charlie's job, but since he was gone I started doing that again. We had lots of fun.

I begin to understand how single moms and military wives do it, though I had a break in between my 9-day stints, and 9 days doesn't exactly compare with 1 month -2 years. So I just want to give a shout-out to those of you who are home taking care of little ones while your husband is away.

But Daddy is home now and the boys are in heaven (okay, he's not home right now, he's doing a trade show an hour away and won't be home tonight, but that's not bad).

on another note, here's a little conversation Thomas and I had one day when he woke up from his nap. I was sitting at the computer when he came into the front room:
T: "Mama, guess who's behind you. It's me! Thomas!" (this is a common "entry" line with him)
Me: "Hi buddy, whatcha doin'?"
T: "I'm just gonna tell you a quickie hi."
Me: "Okay, then what?"
T: "I'm gonna give you hugs and kisses all the day."
Really, does it get much better than that?

I think you're right, it does get easier with practice.:)
The "long" times are very different...it stops being an adventure and becomes endurance, terribly lonely and wearing. Then, as a military mom, I begin to understand a little what it must be like to be a single mom.

I have one of those too from time to time. We miss Daddy when he is gone. People often ask me how I do it between work, school, and home... I casually say, "I just do it because I have three little people counting on me."

Christy,
Just wanted to tell you that I enjoy your blog very much, and you have a beautiful family. Are you still near Bishop? I am planning a fishing trip down there in Sept. and would love to see ya. Take care.
