Confessions

1) I'm a Bible study drop-out. That's right, don't invite me to be in your group. I might get overwhelmed or something. It's not that I don't like Bible study, or have a sense of follow-through; I just have a lot on my plate, and I need my Friday mornings.

2) I read Centennial, a fabulous book. But I skipped about 100 pages. Because they were boring. And they didn't really apply to the story. So I asked my dad and brother if I would be missing anything if I skipped it, and they said "no". Really, I have three kids and a husband. I have a Bible study group to drop out of. I have a house to keep in a somewhat orderly fashion. Birthdays and Christmas are coming. My reading time is limited, why waste it reading about the area around Centennial, Colorado at the dawn of time?

3) I did the same thing with Les Miserables. I read the whole book, but by the end I started skipping the 50-100 page ramblings on Parisian fashion or the history of war. So there. I'm not a purist. I used to be, but I don't have time for that anymore.

Amen! Somethings have to be left out. It takes courage for conscientious, organizing mamas to skip anything, but sometimes it's good! :) Go right ahead and post a link--can I do the same? --Amy

I'm terrible at skipping and skimming parts in books. The worst was "Into the Wild" b Jon Krakauer. The author diverted to his experiences and thoughts...and I didn't feel it was necessary. So I skipped it.

Hehe you are so funny Christy. I am not a bible study drop-out exactly, but I am a flaky attendee.

I know we have discussed this already. I did the exact same thing with Les Miserables, skipping history/war sections because
1. I got confused
2. It was boring in those sections
3. I just don't care that much about French history, sorry France.
I mean seriously, it took a lot of brain power to try to follow those sections in the book and care. I just don't have that much brain power left anymore :)

that's right! we should form a "book-skippers" club. Motto: we don't have time for your boring dribble! (but we do recognize that Victor Hugo is an outstanding author, with much to contribute to our literary experience...)

Wow! I remember how hard core we were into Les Mis. It was all we listened to for a while as we rolled through town in your red mobile with the moon roof open.

ROFLOL!!!

I love your reason for skipping Centennial: you have a Bible study to drop out of, thank you very much...

I drop out of bible studies too. Terrible habit. I also read Centennial and skipped a bunch of pages. I read Chesapeake and did the same thing. I got to about page 400 of Iberia and gave up completely. :)
