On our Return - and Departure

Charlie's mom had a barbeque not long after we got back and Charlie was out of town at a trade show. I got to meet/be reintroduced to several family friends.

Woman (upon introduction): Oh! This is the daughter-in-law who just got back from Bali!
Charlie's dad: Yes.
Woman(to Christy): Huh! You don't look tan at all! I thought you'd be tan, having just got back from Bali.
Christy (rather stunned and stumped, trying to think of a response): Weeell, you should see our boys! Everyone comments on how tan they are!

For the record, I have never been told I don't look tan. Not that I am dark, but I tan easily and am outside all year. This is the first time in my life I have officially not looked tan. After spending three months in the equatorial sun. And who tells someone that anyway?

We will be on our way back to Bali on May 8th. Until then we're getting Indonesian visas (again), spending time in the Eastern Sierras, and finishing up our time in Santa Maria. What a whirlwind of a visit home! We have also all seen the dentist (some of us more times than others) -minus Thomas.

I will hopefully return in September with quite a brown glow. But do me a favor, keep it to yourself if I'm looking palid.

I have never thought of you as being "palid", you seem more olive skinned to me..

People said the same thing to me when I came back from Ghana. I WAS darker, but not much. Personally I threw on 45 spf everyday multiple times and did not find spending midday hours in the equatorial sun particularly pleasant. Plus I figure, why add to the mutations in my DNA?

If anyone ever tells you that you are pale, just think of the radiant skin you will have when you are older :)

Enjoy the rest of your time in the US! What month do you think you will come back? (You have probably told me already, I am sorry!) We should be moving home in late December. I can't wait to see you all and the boys, they are going to be so big the next time we see them!

....who says that? People at a complete loss of what to say to you. :) Don't you love personal comments from complete strangers?

And...it's a "visit" home ? :) interesting word choice!!!

Have fun...

the wayward, thoughtless comment strikes again! i think that there should be a rule that if you don't have anything nice to say, you don't say anything at all. oh wait-- that already IS a rule.

besides which, didn't she get the skin cancer memo? tan is so overrated. :)

as for the dentist, i am subconsciously avoiding mine...guess i ought to make the appointment....
