Loving It!

At long last, he has arrived. Sorry to keep you on pins and needles, but I was a bit tired!

Daniel James joined our family on Sunday, July 6 at 11:56pm. He weighed 8lbs, and was 20" long. When the doctor found out Charlie had to leave for another business trip to Bali, he talked about inducing to get the baby here before Charlie had to leave. We decided I would take the shake that I have taken with all of the boys to induce myself. So, at around noon on Sunday I drank a shake made of 2 oz. castor oil, 2 cups ice cream, one raw egg. At about 3:00 my contractions became strong enough to start casually watching the clock. At 4:30 I started actually timing them. We headed to the hospital at 6:00 and were told that yes, I was in labor, dilated to 3 cm. The doctor broke my water, they put in my epidural, and Daniel was born around two hours later!

He is beautiful, and such a sweet baby. Our big boys are in seventh heaven, and love to hold him and sing to him. He is sleeping in my lap right now, because as with many babies, he has a sixth sense about his bassinet, and if I put him in there at a decent hour, he wakes up. So I am forced to hold him. A terrible fate.

...the first few hours of life...

...peacefully sleeping in a basket (NOT the bassinet!)

Daddy and the boys.

Charles is pretty convinced that there is nothing better than a baby brother. He is so attentive and sweet to little Daniel, I love it.

We have had a great stream of visitors. Since Charlie had to leave so soon after the baby came, his family has been great about visiting and helping me lots. Charlie's parents were able to come up right away, and then one of his brothers' families. Right now his sister is visiting, and next week we get to have another brothers' family. It's been great being able to have so much family around. If I get myself together, I can post pics of their visits too, but we'll see.

yay!! Beautiful. God is good all the time.

Induction shakes, huh? I've never heard of that recipe before. Is this something you heard from natural family planning?

Congratulations!!! I've been wondering since there was a long period of silence on your end (quite understandable, of course). Daniel is beautiful. So happy he is finally here!

well, the induction shake is a recipe that was given to a friend by her midwife. She was told it will work "if your receptors are ready". And it worked with all three boys for me. I took it a week early with Charles, 10 days early with Thomas, and 1 day early with Daniel. But results are not gauranteed. Although I now know of several women who have taken it, and only one friend had to wait a little while and take it again.

Hey Christy! Congratulations! He is a gorgeous sweet baby. Ok so I admit I was waiting to see pictures and checking your blog every single day, even though I knew if it were me I would NOT be uploading pictures to a blog. I am just an excited Auntie. Miss you all! I hope Paul and I can come up and visit you sometime in the future!

Thank you so much for taking the time to post the blog and pictures. I didn't want to bug you for your labor story on the phone, so I am happy to have read it. Each of you are so beautiful. May God bless your postpartum period. Amen. Love, the Ortegas

We are so excited for your family! Congratulations!!! I can not wait to see baby Daniel. I love it that the boys are being great big brothers! Please tell them hi for us and can not wait to when we get to see them too. We are still in California due to financial reasons but will be going back in 3 weeks or so. Not sure yet when. We miss you all so much and are blessed to hear all about how you are. Glad it went so well with delivery. I like the shake idea! God bless you all!
