Good Times

Once upon a time there was a little family. There were two little boys, a mommy and a daddy. They all got in the truck verrrry early one morning (say 4:30) and drove to LA to get the littlest boy his passport and then apply for visas for Indonesia.

They were very excited because they got to stay at the Hyatt and swim in all four pools and the hot tub every day. (This was because the daddy was a very good bargain shopper and scored on Priceline). They definitely did not fit in. The mommy's shoes didn't even match her purse most of the time, much less bear any brand name that couldn't be found at Mervyn's. Nonetheless, they had lots of fun.

Now we switch from third to first person, stay with me. If you didn't guess, the little family is us...

...and we got all accomplished. I would call this the "first leg" of the move. It involved a lot of waiting and a lot of non-kid-friendly environs. But the boys did great. Luckily those waiting areas have lots of chairs to climb on and hide under, and LOTS of people to meet (my boys love that part).

The only part I might have changed was the puking. That's right. Both boys had some kind of bug and HURLED on the drive there. What? Believe it. Thomas threw up. Charles looked at him and threw up. It's dark out. It's freezing cold. We pull over, we change everyone, we're back on the road. Time passes. We are in LA morning traffic, nearly making our 9:00 appointment and T starts whining. Then he shows me what he ate for breakfast. Nasty. Again, C looks at him and immediately throws up. So there we are in traffic trying to clean this up. What's worse is we're going to be gone for three days with no way to clean all this up properly (have you ever had to thoroughly clean two car seats? Quite a process). So we did the best we could, the boys got by for three days in three changes of clothes between them and stinky car seats. I was so thankful to get home tonight and clean everything up. Well, it was a mixed blessing, I could have done without the smell of three-day-old-vomit. Am I being too graphic?

I never ever ever thought I would be able to deal with my children's vomit. But there I was. Very much dealing with it. I just remember, God never gives me more than I can handle!

(I also have lots of Thanksgiving pics I want to post, but I'll get that going later.)

"Good times" humm...that title could be debateable. It is amazing what God gives you the grace to do!
It sounds like a fun adventure, in spite of everything. We love you bunches, and we're looking forward to the pics.

I HATE vomit. I am such a bad mom when it comes to barfing, because my gag reflex is soooo sensitive I end up puking too. UGH. Soooo sorry you were dealing with that under those circumstances! You're a trooper.

Thank you for sharing the good, bad and smelly with us. I felt like I was there, in traffic, with y'all. My mom always says that barforamas happen, but I didn't remember them. Luckily, I still don't remember them, but I know they can happen due to your 2 little ones. Yuck! I cringed and smiled when you said you didn't know if you could deal with your children's puke, but you did - in a traffic jam while trying to make an appointment on the first morning of your trip. Whew! I'm proud of you - and my brother - and heck, of Chas. and T, too! Love, Aud

Your poor kidlets!! And poor you!! It's amazing what we can handle, when we really HAVE to do it.

I'm with ya on the car seats--yuck! They're bad enough anyway with heaven knows what kind of crumbs and things...to add barf on top of that - I think I would've pressure washed them at the nearest drive in car wash.
