Cheapskates'R' Us

I'm kind of a cheapskate. Even when there's money lying around in droves (which is ALMOST always here at our house), I'm trying to find a bargain.

I wash my ziplock bags - most of the time.
I'm not ashamed to shop in thrift stores (it's actually kind of fun, but more difficult and less frequent with three little ones)
I love buying from the bulk bins at the grocery store.
I cook homemade as much as I can.
I try to sew and knit clothing - but I'm not very good at it, and it's often hard to make things "cheaply" when major stores can be so VERY affordable.

Sooo, in the interest of cheapskates everywhere (and those who might need to save a buck or two in these unstable times) I bring you some new favorite websites:

The Tightwad Gazette
Hillbilly Housewife

Just thought I'd share these fun-to-peruse websites with you...

I have to say, I love garage sales. Its a fun treasure hunt for pennies! And occasionally I find nice clothes, games, baby stuff, etc. Course its easier to go with out a crabby wiggly toddler to drag in and out of the car, so I don't go much!

i really think that we should have known each other more in real life! :)

i have found some great stuff at thrift stores, and it has the added benefit of being very eco-friendly to buy things second hand. way to go, saving the world in your free time! i have to say, this has also slowed down with the 3some, but hopefully will pick back up eventually.

i think another thing that has helped me in the make food cheaply from scratch realm is learning about what foods are in season. i may have told you this before, but i love the cookbook "simply in season"...it has really helped me to make the most of what is cheapest (and freshest and most healthy, too!)

I will have to check that book out! I am realizing I am not that familiar with seasonal foods beyond the obvious ones (and ones I obsess over, like butternut squash). I should learn more about that.

Hehe, I love that "saving the world in your free time". Awesome.

I know, I wish we could spend more "real world" time together and not computer time :) Hope you are all doing well!

YAY, i can't wait to check out those blogs. We are in pinching pennies mode. I wash out my ziplocks too. I find I am very weak at creating a meal with 'what's left' in the fridge. I wish I was better at this. But I'm always open to ideas!!
