We just got the notice from the post office that a package is waiting to be picked up. I'm terribly excited. I have been since my mom and sister-in-law suggested the possibility of it's existence and asked for ideas of what to send.
Some of the things that are coming: all-natural lice-repellent (see this post); dark chocolate M&Ms; some fun crafty things for the boys.
My question is this: If you were outside of the U.S. what do you think you would miss most?/When you've traveled, what did you miss?
I can understand that you might not be that excited about lice repellent, but what WOULD you be excited about?
We are pretty lucky in that there is a huge Western population here, and consequently a huge availability for imports, but they're terribly expensive and often hard to justify buying.
My friend Monica and I saw a guy with an In'N'Out t-shirt the other day. Monica expressed both of our thoughts accurately: "That's just not fair." How dare he tempt us with memories of In'N'Out? Oh well, we both will be home in the fall, and you can guess one place our families will head.

mmmmmmm, in-n-out.....i miss that and i'm not even overseas! i think i would have to make an exception in the vegetarian clause if i were faced with one of those. :)
as for your question, i'm not sure what i would miss, because i haven't lived overseas before so i'm not sure what things wouldn't be available that i take for granted now. i think of things like children's tylenol or ice cream...you know, the really important stuff. oh, and pickles...really good claussen pickles. and cheese. do they have cheese there? i think i need a snack....
Wheat Thins. Of course, that's assuming chocolate is readily available. I just have this thing for Wheat Thins and sharp cheddar cheese, and chocolate. If I went without American food for a long time, I'm sure I would miss much more.
It's after midnight. We just got back from Bakersfield. Good talk with Jodi. I'm headed to bed. Sweet dreams.
I just went on a food binge when I was back in the States to catch up on all the favorites I was missing in Australia. One bit of luxury was Alaskan King Crab, but I also miss the little things like Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, Peanut Butter M&Ms, Wheat Thins (I heartily agree with Jackie on this one), Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Aussies apparently have something against the peanut butter and chocolate combination which is a real shame in my humble opinion!

Yeah, come to think of it, I haven't seen much on the PB/Chocolate combo here either.
I forgot about one of the most trivial things: milk. They have milk here, but it is all reconstituted from dry milk. Last time I drank milk almost non-stop when we got home. I didn't even realize I missed milk when I was here.
No Wheat Thins here, either.
Let's see, hmm of course in-n-out, soy milk, mexican food, taco bell (this is not real mexican food but I still miss it), parks, large roads, my church, list could on...well it has been a long time. I am going to be a little culture shocked with so many good things around me! I can not wait until we get to visit the states. Christy you have to e-mail me when you get back there and we can compare notes about this subject.
When I travelled in college I most missed Joe and my family. Food wise Mexican food was a biggie - they don't do this well in London
(a waste of good money). I've never been oversees for more than a month and for that amount of time everything is exciting, but I can imagine that the novelty wears off and your ready for some US staples.

Christy, I might be so bold to say that my willingness to be here is directly proportionate to how available ice cream is ... no, I would still love Bali, but it might get a little tough at times.
They have tons of different ice cream here, but my favorite thing is the Magnum bar. Think vanilla covered with a VERY thick layer of chocolate. What could be better? Also available with almonds. I could probably dedicate a whole post to this. Maybe I will...
I read this after enjoying my nightly bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats, so I guess that's my answer. Also, Ben & Jerry's would be a sad thing to go without.
