Just so everyone knows, we went to the doctor today even though we think the fever broke yesterday. Thomas' mouth was still hurting and he wasn't too enthusiastic about eating or drinking for some of the day. There are great hospitals and clinics here - we took him to the BIMC, click on the word if you want to see their website.
The doctor gave us medicine for thrush, but wasn't quite sure if that was it. She said to give the medicine a day or so and if his mouth wasn't healing or the fever came back to bring him back in. At that point we would do some blood and urine tests, but I think we're on the up-and-up.
I did look up Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease and the symptoms seem to match, but we'll see what happens with the medicine she gave us. If things don't heal, I think the bloodwork would tell us if he has that. The doctor did check his throat and said it looked great, so that ruled out strep throat, and I think those were most of the possibilities.
Thomas seemed better tonight and drank lots of water. He also enjoyed a few french fries from McDonalds (thank goodness for the Golden Arches) and his new favorite, "ah-guk" (or yogurt, for the non-toddlers among us).
I look forward to posting on new insights rather than illnesses. I didn't mean to alarm anyone, just wanted to know if others had seen similar things.
